The fact that the USSR had allies that weren't a liability was pretty huge too, especially as the war progressed.
I think we have to look to why Germany didn't lose sooner, because with the benefit of hindsight we can easily see what a disaster a war with the Soviet Union would inevitably be.ĮDIT: Just providing slightly more context, in no way does this constitute an accurate representation of events on the Eastern Front. Honestly, I doubt any factors can accurately represent how Germany lost on the eastern front. The German strategy also created an immensely wide front which over time would only work to the advantage of the Soviets, since they had moved production to the Urals, and were still mobilizing soldiers. The German army wasn't equipped for a long war against the Soviet Union, poor winter equipment led many to suffer from frostbite. Their policy of repression against Slavic peoples led them to effectively create enemies in their rear as they advances, resistance fighters who would sabotage equipment, railways and so on. German strategy needs to be mentioned, least of which their racial policy. There's also the incredible size of the Soviet army which at the outset of the war was only slightly larger than the German army, but swelled in numbers to eclipse it quickly. So in terms of equipment (Tanks as was mentioned) it would have been the Soviet ability to mass-mobilise factories for the production of military equipment, not them having tanks at the outset of the war. We see a similar theme with aircraft production.
Soviet tank production quadrupled by 1942 while german tank production only doubled. Soviet tank production was ahead of Germany but not by a large margin in 1941.
Wouldn't weather affect both sides? Aren't tanks affected the hardest by poor weather? That's grossly oversimplifying things to the point where it becomes confusing. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
